HP Laserjet CM4540 MFP - How To Make Tray 2 At Default

HP Laserjet CM4540 MFP -  How To Make Tray 2 At Default:-

When I send a print (just plain paper), it keeps defaulting to tray one even thought the trays have been configured properly.

Tray is only use for envelopes and labels

Current configuration:
Tray 1:
Size: any
Type: any

Size: A4
Type: Letterhead

Tray 3:
Size: A4
Type: Plain

The only way I can print plain from Tray 3 is if I close the Tray one door.

I would like to see if anyone can provide with  a solution please.

I would like to be able to have tray 1 loaded with envelopes/labels and be able to print plain letter or form from Tray 3.

Thank you for your assistance.

1 Solution
You should do this on the PC (or on the server if you're using one).

Go to Printers & Faxes (Devices & Printers in Win7). Right-click the printer and select Properties (Printer Properties in Win7). Click the Advanced tan and then the Printing Defaults button. Set the default tray settings. I don't know what selections there are in your driver, but I would not set Tray 1 to Any. Instead, set it to either the correct envelope size or to labels. When done, click OK. Then click the General tab and the Printing Preferences button. Verify (and change if necessary) the settings there.

Your PC will now default to your settings.

One proviso though. Some applications (Word is the most common example) save printer settings with the document. If a document was saved with settings for another printer, Word will try to convert the old settings to the new printer. That may or may not result in what you want. On top of that, Word also ignores paper/tray settings made at print time. Instead you will need to change the settings from Page Setup.

Thank you very much for the answer - I have tried your recommendation and it works perfectly.
