how to grab the left of a space delimeted cell?

How to grab the left of a space delimeted cell?  The cell is a first name last name field.  I want to grab the left characters of the space and the right characters from the space.  

cell = "Jane Doe"

    Hi, kgittinger.

    Please see attached. The formulas are...
    B1 ==> =MID(A1,1,FIND(" ",A1&"  ",1)-1)
    C1 ==> =MID(A1,LEN(B1)+2,9999)
    Let me know if a middle name is possible. If so, I assume you'd either want to drop it or to include it with first name.
