Trying to print to Aficio mp5002

We have an Aficio mp5002 copier on our Server 2003/XP Pro network.
I can grab an IP address (I reserved it one).
I've installed in on the server and shared it.
I've "connected" it to our workstations.
The workstations can ping it IP but cannot print to it.

The print log shows "authentication error occurred" for each print attempt.

We're never prompted for a password...

Any thoughts?

As you've shared it via the server rather than pointing the workstations to its IP address, try checking the default permissions that the printer has. If you add the Domain Users group to the list and give it Print permissions, see if that works. If not, try adding Manage printer permissions too.

If this fails, try pointing a workstation driver installation to the IP address of the Aficio and see if that works. If it does, you at least have a workaround, though if you have dozens of workstations it won't be much fun to implement...

The workstation is in same domain as the Print Server is??

Have you provided all the required driver versions on the server? like Win Xp, Win Vista, Win7 etc. These are required for you to enable print from any workstation having different OS. You have to provide the drivers as below

I will also support the workaround of installing the Printer directly over IP, but it will be hectic task if there are many machines.

    Accepted Solution

Wow... turned out to be a setting on the actual copier itself.  Thought that the tech would have caught this!
