IBM Data Studio not finding installed DB2/Database. Any reason why this will happen?

Hi All,

I have installed Db2 9.7 and manually created the instance db2inst1 (not the default DB2 instance). I followed up with the creation of a database and associated DB2 objects. However when I started the IBM Data Studio and using the Data Studio Administration Explorer, I am unable to detect the DB2 Instance or the database.

Can any one share with me how to enable display and connection to database(s) created on my local machine?

is the instance up and running?
have you tried to catalog your databases?
are you sure the your environment variables are configured?

Open the database configure assistant (db2ca) and run through the configuration of your instance/database.

yes, the instances are started and running, the databases are all cataloged. Your other question was if the environment variables are configured? If I may aske, what environment variables do you have in mind for me to verify it is configured? I have DB2instace, TCPIP, DB2INSTDEF all set and all 4 instances are local on my laptop, no remote. Anything else I should consider to check with regards to Data Studio being able to recognize their presence?

If I may ask, is there anything specific recommendation you will have me perform? I am simply setting the Data Studio and the Database on my Laptop to familiarize myself with Data Studio. I do not have a DB2 client installed. It seems to me Data Studio is the client here? And since I gave these data bases cataloged, Data Studio should be able to detect and "recognize" the instances.

RECAP: I have cataloged as local 4 Db2 Instances (DB2, DB2INST1, 2, and 3); cataloged databases on all 4 instances; bring up Data Studio which shows me 3 out of 4 database:
2 databases in instance1 but only 1 shown, 1 database each from instance 2 and 3 shown in the data studio explorer window. As of now, I am still trying to figure out why the database from instance1 is not showing.

    Accepted Solution

Issue the command "db2 list db directory" in a command window for each instance.
Also issue "db2 list node directory"
What does that tell you ? Does all the databases show up for both instances ?
