OWA not responding to authentication request

Ever since renewing my sec cert I've had issues. a little while ago i posted a question about getting owa working again. it does as far as bring up the page correctly, but what i failed to do was actually attempt to log onto the system.

if i enter the wrong username or password, i get an immediate response of “invalid username or password”

if I enter the correct credentials I simply get a ‘waiting for response from domain.com… I let it sit there all day and nothing.
Suggestions?

Have you run an IISreset on the Exchange server?  Also, try restarting the Exchange services.

Yes, I've done about half dozen IISresets and restarted the server multiple times.

Are any errors generated on the Event Viewer for Exchange?  What about the IIS logs?

I'd agree with Matt, without IIS logs - we're pretty much hunting at anything that we can hear in pitch dark jungle.

What type of authentication do you configure for OWA in EMC ?
0

BrandonProject Manager, IT Systems and Software DesignAuthor Commented:
Here are some more details after rebuilding the OWA folder.

1) All URL items in EMC and IIS point to the same link.

2) SBS sees the owa and says it's online.

3) Authentication is Forms/UN w/proper domain selected.

4) Active Sync works fine.

5) In Firefox I get the error after I enter my username and password "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies." If I enter the incorrect information, i immediately receive the 'incorrect information' message.

6) An iOS device using safari browser, after entering the proper un/pw gives me 'safari cannot open this link because it is being redirected to many times.' As with FF, if I enter the wrong un and/or pw I get the same, wrong information dialog box.

I believe these items show the authentication is working just fine, but the redirect to the actual mailbox data just isn't opening up.

How do I know which of the four is the 'correct' one from GoDaddy that I just installed?

Every cert has a start and end date ..... what i wanted to say is check details and work accordingly.

the greater question will be, is the cert causing the OWA site to not open the mailbox views?

Anyone?

If there are multiple certs not sure ..... if OWA is trying to work with the expired cert ?

Got this: Warning: Http logon request did not return an OK result code 302 (Found).
Warning: The test encountered an error while logging on to Outlook Web Access.

when you open https://exchangeser.domain.local,, click on the certificate on address bar. it will show you which certificate is used for OWA in exchange.

From the exchange managemnt console, identify which certificate is the valid certificate and re- assignit on exchange services.

I'm using the correct certificate. What could be causing this..ugh

Suliman Abu KharroubIT Consultant Commented:
assign it again on exchange services from EMC then do IISRESET....if that does not work, double check the spilling on the certificate and on the URL (it should be matched).

But if these are the issues, then the link wouldn't work at all. The issue isn't the connection or the ssl cert authenticity. The issue is the user data isn't getting to or from the server back to my browser so it can then show the mailboxes.

I"m opening a paid MS support session now.

I guess they too might get you to remove other certs and just keep the new one.

Please see my first post, what authentication methods do configure for owa ? Try to change it to other method....

also had you tried to reset exchange virtual directories?

BrandonProject Manager, IT Systems and Software DesignAuthor Commented:
The issue was with the OWA HTTP REDIRECT settings. It always had been set to direct to the OWA site, but for some reason it just stopped working. So we unchecked the require HTTP Redirect and bam, worked like a charm.

Seems strange since every other enviornment i worked in this had to be checked to work correctly. Perhaps there is something different with SBS or a patch adjusted something. Either way, unchecking the HTTP redirect worked.

Thanks all, sorry I could hand out points but I don't think it would do other's  just service to highlight an answer that was not 100% correct.

Good to see your issue resolved :)

Unfortunatly, all the suggestions had not pinpointed the issue. The HTTP Redirect for the OWA folder was the culprit. The certs and all the other items had been fine.
