Monitoring Hardware in VMWare

Hi

Is there a way we can remotely monitor hardware status (failed Hard Disks, RAM, Power etc)?

We have Paessler's PRTG which now has a SOAP monitor for VMware, apparently it will alert on whatever vClient can alert on.

Goal here is to be able to get an email alert if ever a component fails on a client site where we are not present day in day out.

You want to monitor the ESX H/W and get alerted when something fails?
We have vCenter handle this for us.

Yes.

Essentially when you install Windows Server onto a HP ProLiant Server you can also install Insight Manager etc.

I want the same thing that works on Virtualised OS's.

Now I have just found this:

https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPVM09

Which suggests you can if you use THEIR ESXi installer - however the systems are already installed and configured.

Is there a way this can be added retrospectively?
Shadowless - I know vCenter has some built in monitors but it's not as detailed and complete as HP's own?

How about if we need to also monitor a HP P2000 SAN?

Would need something that could "read" the P2000 via IP address and report on sensors.

I think Insight Manager can do this from a server, if only I can get it past the visualization layer

You could try Nagios
http://www.nagios.org/

or HP Systems Insight Manager will manage ALL HP products and devices.
