I want a non-iPhone / non-Android phone that automatically “beeps” when I get a new email.

What phone do you recommend ?

I currently use "Outlook WebAccess".

I like Blackberry but beware of costs associated with "Enterprise", their server that deals with business email. You may get an additional charge from the phone retailer AND your company if this is for work.

Most service providers should give you a Blackberry with a BIS subscription so that you can use everything. That should be equivilent to a regualr data plan. Nothing else is required. A BES server can be setup inhouse to support the BES with full sync.
Without a BES, Blackberry is pretty poor going to Exchange.

Another option would be a Windows Phone. Ignore those who slate them (mainly because they are NOT an iPhone). The Nokia gets excellent reviews from actual users.
