Adobe Reader Acting  Strangely

Hi, and thanks for any ideas.

I have a client with one employee with a strange Adobe Reader problem.  They are on XP Pro and up to date with updates, and the latest version of Adobe Reader.  I have already uninstalled and re installed it.   Antivirus is up to date, and I'm running a long scan with malwarebytes.

When they open a pdf, the readable part of the document is shown framed by the desktop behind it, all within the adobe screen.  If the document is saved, it is saved with the bizarre image produced when it was opened.  If the document is moved, more distortion and image overlapping occurs.

Nothing else seems wrong with the pc.

Any ideas?

Any drives errors in event logs?

    Test the drive and memory.

Update all drivers esp. Drive, video, and bios.

Try an older version if adobe to test.

Try another free PDF app as a test.

    >>>If the document is moved, more distortion and image overlapping occurs.

Most likely Video drivers related issue. One more cause would be the size of the PDF and graphics it contains.
Sometime it depends upon the amount of RAM you have on the system?

Did you tried to open the same PDF on the other system of similar configuration?

    All good questions.

I'll need to follow up on Monday, and then write back with results.

    Is it user-profile specific?

    If so, delete
     - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader
     - %userprofile%\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat

Otherwise, I'd suspect GFX driver too - uninstall the old one before installing the new one.

Yes.  One user only experiencing this.  They are the only user on that machine, so it may or may not recur using another ID.

I'll use this info tomorrow when I go in to debug.

I have seen where the TEMP folder is full of acrXXXX.tmp files, then Reader behaves strangely. Clear all .tmp files.

I'll check this out next time I;m at the client.

I installed another PDF reader which works.  Will explore the drivers ASAP.
