Server 2008 R2 VM - Windows Server Backup: failing to backup to shared path on external USB drive.

The Windows Server Backup creates the folders for the backup on the Shared folder on the external USB drive, but it is not populating the USB drive with data in it.

Windows Server Backup message error: "One of the backup files cound not be created. Detailed error: The parameter is incorrect."

It is a Western Digital My Book Essential 3TB

This is about the 9th or 10th posting of this issue I have been involved in .

MS has done a horrible job of making this publicly known.

As to whether or not they will fix it or just make you upgrade is questionable.
