"Must have" NetApp storage software for entry-level FAS2220?

Hi, I'm buying a FAS2220 to run my SQL document management system over Hyper-V, and my sales person insists I should buy the entire bundle which costs more than the unit itself.

Is there indeed real value in getting the entire bundle or should I just get the base unit which includes Data OnTap 8.1 ?

I'm getting the version with 12x 1TB SATA drives.

Thank you for the insights..

Veeam Backups are completed at the OS layer, NetApp Snapshots completes Snapshots at the SAN layer, and are quicker, and far more efficient.

We use NetApp SAN Snapshotting, you either use one or the other.

Veeam is very slow in comparison.

what does the Bundle contain?

Snap Drive for SQL ?

which includes software that allows you to Backup and Restore SQL database easily.

the complete bundle contains the entire netapp platform suite.

my main question is for snapmanager application, which requires snaprestore.. is it worth paying around 40% of the price of the base array in order to get the software features? i already have my veeam backups..

Thank you, and SAN snapshotting requires Snapmanager in order to work? or it's included in the base unit?

for example when you buy your netapp appliances, do you pay the below?

base hardware cost (includes data ontap - $$$)

+ implementation ($$)
+ snapmanager license ( $$ - is this what you mean that enables snapshotting?)
+ part replacement ($)

You can snapshot on the SAN, on the base unit.

SnapManager License is the software that allows Backup and Restore of SQL databases easily!

But Snap Manager for SQL, integrates with SQL to allow easier backup and restore.

got it, thanks!
The bundle is cheaper if you need several additional features such as CIFS, snapvault, snapmirror, ...

The basic license + snaprestore + SM SQL is cheaper than the full bundle. But make sure you don't want any of the additional features later on, or you might end up paying more in the long run.

So you should probably do some reading on the features that Netapp has to offer.
