how do I create a sqlserver account that has the capability to only run reports and extract data? The user will be connecting via SQLserver Mgt Studio thru our public IP. They really only need access to 2 database(s) to extract data and run reports against. Please advise

That's correct. It provides read-only access to the database. We use it primarily for report writers, who need data access, but don't need to insert, select, update, delete, etc.
