better open source for Excel file parsing

Hi,
I would like to know Which is better open source for Excel file parsing in Java. Does APACHE POI supports writing to excel file(along with reading excel file).What are the advantagesa dn disadvantages, practical uses of each approach.Any ideas, suggestions, sample code, links, source code highly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Apache POI is the good one... even you can work with Word document also.

Yes, you can do read and write with the excel along with the formatting also.

You can't create charts and pivot tables with POI. That's why I'm using OpenOffice/LibreOffice at my work.

POI supports for both .xls as well as .xlsx
