Moving clients from Outlook to Gmail

A client wants to move all his staff to a cloud-based email platform.

Rationale : They want to check email at home and when traveling.

Does he like Outlook? Yes.

What does he like about Outlook?

He uses a search plugin for Outlook that helps him find emails quickly. He also
likes the ability to put everything in different folders for different projects.

Bearing in mind that these are his two most important criterion - is Gmail a good alternative?

You can use gmail or any other e-mail service provider. Most of all e-mail service providers provide you, your all queries solution in there product.
If you already have an exchange server you could use Outlook Web Access, it allows my staff to access outlook anywhere.  Other options would be to set up a VPN to allow work network access from anywhere, thus allowing an outlook connection to the server and working from home.  Or if you guys don't mind paying extra, you could get Office 365.  It's cloud based email with a full office implementation and document sharing.
