As part of our organisation trying to cut costs (who isn't?) they have decided to allow remote working (working from home). This has been in place for several years but has only been used by employees when they need to be at home, say for a delivery or something like that. Now their pretty much forcing us to work from home several days a week. Nobody really has a problem with this but it has raised a few questions within our small team with the main one revolving around communications. Currently we all share an office and we often just pop over to each others desks for a quick chat (work related). Obviously this isn't going to be possible any more.
I was just wondering what solution you may have in place for your remote workers to stay in touch easily.
Our current set up is connecting to the network via Citrix Access Gateway and the use of Outlook. That's pretty much it so we are just left with emailing each other or phoning (using our personal phones!).
Ideally we want to have a solution that enables quick communication, we're not bothered about accessing files etc as this can all be done through Citrix, its about replacing the ability to walk over to someones desk for a quick chat.
One of the things i thought of was Instant Messaging. However, this is currently banned due to its security risks by our IT section and i doubt they will ever let us use it.
Its a bit of a vague question but i would be interested to hear about any solution you may be using and how effective they are in connecting remote users.
