sharepoint 2010 permissions groups view?

I helped a user create a new permissions group as a test.  We wanted to delete the group after creating it.  Is there a way to find all permission groups for a site?  Going to site actions - site permissions and the group is not there, which I get because it is showing the permissions for that site.  But how do you get to a view of all the permissions?

Sorry, but you won't find one.  That functionality isn't available out of the box.  The closest would be visiting each site, and on the Permissions page, there should be a "Check Permissions" box in the toolbar ribbon.  That will check on that particular site.

I am having trouble even finding the group.  I went to site actions - site settings - people and groups and the people and groups do not display there, nor do the people, probably because we have a custom membership provider set up.  I did manage to finally find the group displayed on the left but there seems to be no option to delete it.

So if you click on the group on the left, does it take you to the page where you can add users?  If so, do you have a "Settings" button next to the "New" button?  In there you shoudl be able to go to Group Settings and delete.
