This is strategy only. I can build any solution you describe. I realize this question may be too much for this venue, but needed advice on a strategy for setting up a document management system using FM 12's drag & drop container fields.
Key design issues:
1. Most pdfs will not need to be changed, but for those that do, my tentative workaround would be to save all our pdfs on our file server and drag them into a FM container field. Then, if we want to change one, we change the one on the File Server and drag it to overwrite the one in the container field.
2. Definitely want the flexibility of being able to list and open pdf files, such as via a portal. We need a consistent naming convention, so my tentative solution would be to name all files “scanned” pre-drop into FM and then have FM have a calc name added to the front. Any additional issues?
3. Can we have a table designated for pdfs and have a field show in other tables/layouts? I’m having a problem with this.
