Whats the best way to migrate my emails to my new account?

I changed email hosting from GoDaddy (IMAP) to Google Apps (IMAP).  The account is now live meaning all MX records have populated.  All of the messages that were on GoDaddy account are stored in my Thunderbird.  What is the best way to get those messages into my Google Apps account?  Its the same email address, can I just change the server information in Thunderbird?  I was thinking if I did it might wipe out all of the emails and folders I currently have.  Thanks in advance.

I actually wrote a script that transfers mail and folders from one IMAP to another.  I need to sanitize it a bit before I post it.  It's PHP and it can be easily re purposed for your requirements.

Not sure if that script would work as the email addresses are the same.  I have all of the messages in my Thunderbird but can't do anything with them.  Can't move or copy.

Ohh, I misread this.  Some email providers have scripts that allow you to migrate from a 3rd part server to their server.  Google probably has something available.  The problem is, its usually done via an IMAP stream between the two servers.  Im not sure how you would do this locally.  Maybe someone has written some freeware?

You can use GAMME, the free tool from Google, to move your IMAP email from GoDaddy to Gmail (server to server).

If all of your email is local, you can use the email uploader tool from Google.

Created local folders then moved the messages to them. Created the account in thunderbird and moved the files back.

How should points br awarded since I found my own solution?
