Load Balancing on a Cisco 1841 using 2 ISP and 2 public IPs
Hello there,
I need to do load balancing on a 1841 Cisco router. It will be receiving 2 Internet Access on respectively both its Fastethernet ports (FE0/0 and FE0/1) cause they don't provide T1.
Obviously I will need and additional FE for the LAN. Could you tell me which module card would be the best choice for the LAN.
Both ISPs are providing static IPs.
Also I would like to know how to configure load balancing with the 2 ISPs.
Please I would like to have the config. You can stimulate one of the interface with FE1/0.

If you just want to load balance equally on the outbound traffic, then using two default routes should work.
If you need to be able to access internal hosts from both external links, you will need to get into BGP and some serious routing configs with your ISPs.

I'm a little bit not clear. I would not prefer to use BGP if possible because the cost might be higher.
1) If I choose two default routes will I still have load balancing right?
The way I understand it is like some hosts would no be able to pick one ISP and some others go to the other ISP if I choose the default routes.
2) Do I will have to pay for a ASN in case I would choose to use BGP?
I know I might find a book that would help me for the configuration.

If you use two default routes, the router will send the traffic out alternate paths, based on destination. You can change the default behaviour so it will randomize by packet instead of destination. This does not account for any incoming traffic like a web server though.
