Are you using the version of ESXi from HP? (e.g. downloaded from HP).

Have you updated your server with the latest firmware DVD?

I am sure I used the esxi from hp. but I never done firmware update for my server... how do I do it in vmware? will that improve the accuracy of the alert?

Go to HP website and download the latest ISO firmware. Burn CD's with the firmware and run those on your ESXi box.

If you are running on cluster you can migrate all the vm's to a different host, put the host you have migrated all the vm's from in maintenance mode, reboot the box and boot with those disc's to do the upgrade.

you cannot do a flash upgrade from within ESXi.

Boot Firmware DVD, and it will automatically upgrade all the outdated components.

is this the one you are talking about? the "Smart Update Firmware DVD "
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3884316&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3884315&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4115#2915

Will that really help the accuracy of the alert?
why I need to put the host in maintenance mode? Can't I just just select restart on the direct console screen?

Yes, that is the correct Firmware DVD.

It's recommended to make sure you firmwares are always up to date.

As for the issue with unknown alert, it can help, or may not, and you have to live with it.

Stelian StanNetwork AdministratorCommented:
You need to put the host in maintenance mode to be able to install the update for the host or update the firmware.

shutdown intstructs the host server to shutdown and turn off.

maintenance mode instructs the host to enter maintenance mode which stops VM being turn on.

you should enter maintenance mode before shutdown if using clusters
