Veeam 6.1 and BackupExec 2012 Integration
Hello
We are using veeam 6.1 and backupexec 2012 - they are running on the same server which is server 2008 r2.
Currently veeam is backing up the VMs, and using BUE to archive the images to tape. However due to the size of the images, archiving the images will span across multiple tapes. And also because it spans across multiple tapes, when the tapes get rotated back, it will then try to overwrite or append any existing data.
Would like to know what the best practice of having Veeam and BUE together to do disk-to-tape backup without using so many tapes, and also if theres a way to copy the new files across?

You can tweak the compression rate but your backups will run slower. Depends on how your doing your backups. Full then Incremental to only grab new data each day. Or synthetic fulls which compile the fulls and incrementals etc to help reduce the size but slow your veeam backups down a little bit depending on the how it is setup (direct attached etc.). If it comes down to the size you could also contact veeam to help you tweak your backups to best suite your needs. Their support is fantastic
Do you Backup all your VMs to a single VBK Job?
ASKER
Yes all VMs in one backup job.
We are trying to backup all chained files including the full backup file. Our strategy is to have 3 weeks retention on disk - 3 full (each week) and then archive these files to our tape repository. In the event we need to perform a restore 12 months down the track, we can then go back to our tapes.
The problem is we have a total size of 3TB, to move them to tape, it will span to about 3-4 tapes - however our other problem is also, what happens if the tapes get rotated, what happens then?

We usually group services, and backup to smaller VBK to avoid corruption.

How do we backup file extension? Veeam has a file extension of .vbk, we want to backup this file only, is there a way to select this within BackupExec2012?
You should be able to specifically backup these files in Backup Exec 2012, I would recommend backup the entire folder.

Yes, we would like to backup one file, however would like to know if theres a way to do this? I cant seem to find this?
