Catalyst 4960 flexstack problems

Posted on 2012-08-30

After much difficulty I finally was able to stack 2 catalyst 4960ts switches. When I use the command show switch it shows both switches in stack. Member number 2 for some reason none of the Ethernet ports are working and I am not sure how to get in and manage both.  Any ideas?

    Can you post a 'show switch' and a 'show version'?

    A side note: since stacking them, when I use cisco network assistant, it gets stuck at 88% processing discovered devices.

    Accepted Solution

    The master runs an older version of IOS than the member:
    Switch Ports Model              SW Version            SW Image
    ------ ----- -----              ----------            ----------
    *    1 52    WS-C2960S-48TS-L   15.0(1)SE3            C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M
         2 52    WS-C2960S-48TS-L   15.0(2)SE             C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M

    The stack will form, but it won't operate correctly. You should upgrade them both to the same version:

    Would I have to break the stack before I upgrade?

    The master can upgrade the members without actually breaking the stack, but the switches might reboot a few times.

    I will post back after I apply the solution this week.
