vmware replication from paid edition to free edition

I have two vmware servers, the first one  holds 2 VMs , and the second vmware is free edition and it contains one standby VM, created by me. In case there is a hardware failure with the first vmware server I will start the standby VM from second vmware server and use it as production
I saw that in vmware 5.1 there is a feuture - replication, which can be used for replicating virtual machine. My question is if it's possible to perform this replication from paid edition to free edition, and this keep standby up to date.

I doubt it since it will involve vCenter and the free version cannot connect to vCenter

Unfortunately, NO - the Free Edition will not allow this function.

Purchase the minimum VMware vSphere Essentials version at approx $500.

ok, If I buy license for the second one.
My esxi are located in different site, In case one of the site is down I want to start the VM from another site, but if the vcenter is not available is it possible to do it?

the requirement is not vCenter, you can replicate from ESXi to ESXi server.

Cheapest option would be to purchase VMware vSphere Essentials for approx $500. You'll get licenses for 3 x Hosts, and vCenter Server.
