I have an Excel file stored in Sharepoint 2010. If I click on the "Open in Excel" button, I get this error message: "To open this workbook, your computer must have a version of Microsoft Excel installed and your Web Browser must support opening files directly from Excel in the browser."  I am currently only able to edit this document by downloading a copy of it on to my computer first.

    Accepted Solution

This can be caused by a few things.....

    1. Using a non-supported browser
    2. Using 64 bit version of IE
    3. Having a corrupted Office install (typically repaired by an Office repair)

    Author Closing Comment

As I thought, it is due to the fact that I am using a 64-bit system.
