How to connect to remote server in crystal reports

While creating the data source, when the write the database servername, which is on remote, it does'nt connect.

How ever it connects locally.

Do you have a network connection to the remote server and appropriate rights?  You need to provide more detailed information.

I have done it through a VPN using an ODBC connection

I have enabled remote connection for sql server in  that machine where sql server is there. No firewall is there.

Can you ping the IP address of the remote sql server? Can you ping it by either short or fully qualified DNS?

I am able to ping successfully, Front end application is also working;
Is there any configuration settings for crystal reports.

When i putting the server name i am writing the ip address of remote machine.

how are you attempting to connect?  native connection, odbc, dsn, etc..?   if you create an odbc dsn can you test it to ensure it connects?
