I want to learn about macs and get to use it.  What's the best way? I am thinking either buy the laptop for 1000 or the mini for 600?

I have a kid in college.  They can get it a little cheaper? And the Mac mini can be an expensive apple tv since we can hook it up to the tv?  And when not using it as apple tv, I can use LogMeIn to connect to it from elsewhere?

Any other thoughts?

Yes - Apple does have a Student purchase program and does provide a slight discount. I guess it depends on what you want - would you prefer a desktop or a laptop? If you don't have a monitor to connect to the mini, you should factor in the cost of purchasing a monitor as well - if you are going to exclusively use it on your TV, then you wouldn't have to worry about a monitor.

Either way, both are great options. If you purchase the Air, I would recommend the Apple Care in case accidents should happen!   :)

You are correct, you could use the mini as a media center PC. LogMeIn is one of the various services you could use to take control of it when not in use.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Depending on how much exposure you have had to Mac OS X, it might not be a bad idea to visit an Apple store and use one of their computers for an hour and just see how you like it.

Thanks. Yeah no monitor cost cause I'll use the tv and LogMeIn.

I think for the lower cost of the mini and get to play video on the tv / don't need apple tv I'll go that way.

Oh!!!! Forgot to ask ...  Is ere a mini refresh coming up? Drop in price or increase in features?

At this moment there isn't a refresh model of the mac mini coming up.
Don't see a drop/increasehappening. Apple is really stable with it's Mac prices

If I were you I would go for the Mac Mini if you want to use your apple tv as your monitor. Mac Mini isn't that expensive.
