Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 8.5 Windows Small Business Server Edition

I need a good backup system for my SBS 2008 (and maybe SBS 2011 later).

Anyone has any judgement/advise about this product?

Does it backup SQL and Exchange? ( by account, folder, etc.)

Any alternatives aside Acronis server for SBS?

Have you tried Appasure? I've had good luck with this product, not too happy Dell bought them out but still a good product.

I wouldn't use Acronis, sounds like you've already had a bad experience or a good reason not to use them again. They're support is horrible and software not what it used to be.

What is wrong with the built-in backup?  It works great.

Properly configuring Deleted Item Retention in Exchange will generally eliminate any need to have per mailbox backups, but should you need to restore a single mailbox its not very difficult with Exchange 2007 or 2010 using a full store backup.  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124357(v=exchg.80).aspx

Update on my search for an easy stable backup and restore for my SBS 2008.
1. I checked Appusure -- unknown and expensive.
2. I have used built backup system -- cumbersome and difficult to use.
3. Purchased a official  Symantec Backup and recovery 8.5 ( <$250) for Small Business Sever, and it  works great! Tested backup and restore. Quick and Easy.

The only problem I have is that the granular online recovery for Exchange give me license issue: Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery Granular Restore: This version of the software (Small Business Server edition) is not able to read images generated with BSER Server edition. Either create backup images with BSER SBS edition or upgrade this product to the Server version.

Anyone has a solution for this?

My plan is to use Symantec 8.5, and for backup will backup with SBS 2008 with built-in backup system as well.

I do have questions?
1) Will Symantec 8.5 SBS edition work with SBS 2011?
2) What advantages I have with SBS 2011 over freshly installed SBS 2008? Can I upgrade from SBS 2008 to SBS 2011?

Regards and Thanks.

Wow!  That's one thing I've NEVER heard about the built-in backup system.  How in the world is it difficult to use?  You simply run the wizard and follow the steps it tells you to do with regards to labeling your drives.

So I strongly disagree with your reason to spend money on a 3rd party product.

Your question regarding SBS 2011 is completely separate from your initial question, so if you would like that answered, please post it separately.
