Offline Address book not synching - Exchange 2010

Hi,

I am having problems with Exchange Offline Address book synchronization.

After a migration from SBS2003, I have  this error :
16:17:27 Microsoft Exchange offline address book
16:17:27       0X8004010F

I went to the offline address book, and it was based on the public folder, so I created a new one, activated the web distribution, not the public folder one (no outlook 2003 clients). Linked it to the OAB virtual directory, but still have the problem.

There are two problems I am noting :
1) Virtual directory shows an error while testing the application passthrough access :
Cannot verify access to path in the authorisation part. Authentication is OK
2) ExchangeOAB folder is empty

Oh, and there is a third one :
3) When I update the OAB, I have those in the event log :
eventID 9331 and 9335 :

OABGen encountered error 80004005 (internal ID 50101ee) accessing the public folder database while generating the offline address list for address list '/'.
- \Default Offline Address List

OABGen encountered error 80004005 while cleaning the offline address list public folders under /o=PROCESSIA2003/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List.  Please make sure the public folder database is mounted and replicas exist of the offline address list folders.  No offline address lists have been generated.  Please check the event log for more information.
- \Default Offline Address List

Any hint ?

Juste realized the Outlook client sync error changed :

17:24:42 Microsoft Exchange offline address book
17:24:42       0X80190194

Will google that...

maxalarieAuthor Commented:
Oh, and ExchangeOAB is not really empty, it is the GUID of the address book as a folder, but it is this one that is empty.

maxalarieAuthor Commented:
Outlook client error says that files cannot be found in the virtual directory, but since those are copied from ExchangeOAB and this one is empty (but the GUID folder)

This folder is correctly shared as ExchangeOAB, Exchange Server group is granted access and server is in the group.

Then again, it is empty, data can not be copied from there if it isn't there.

System Attendant, File replication and Backup file transfer are all started and have been restarted. No luck.

Restart FDS service on CAS server .... there should be a similar folder "ExchangeOAB" on the CAS as well with all the GUID values

Hi Rancy !

We meet again ! I hope I finally get through all the problems of the migration away from SBS 2003.

Thanks again for looking at my problems.

Sorry, I tried to take some time off last week, ended up working most of the time since there were hardware failures.
Sorry for letting the post here unattended.

There is such a folder on the CAS server, it has a folder named with GUID 21759fb1-8233-4b02-b186-e11741a11876, but this folder is empty.

What is the FDS service ?

Hi Maxalarie :)

Sorry, I tried to take some time off last week, ended up working most of the time since there were hardware failures - Oops and No issues as we have to always take care of Priority issues.

GUID 21759fb1-8233-4b02-b186-e11741a11876 - There should be a similar folder on Mailbox server and does it has the files ?

FDS - is File Distribution Service and should be started on the CAS server as it pulls the data from the Mailbox Server GUID folder to the GUID on CAS.

Both servers are the same machine.

I have such a folder in the DataFolder of Exchange, which is what you call the Mailbox server. It has the folder with GUID 21759fb1-8233-4b02-b186-e11741a11876, but this subfolder is empty.

I also have this folder in IIS as a virtual directory which is what you call the CAS server I guess, which is copied from the Exchange Data ExchangeOAB folder, but it is also empty since the first one, the source one, is also empty.

I restarted the FDS, and it didn't change the state.

Process MSExchangeFDS.exe (PID=13664). Could not find file \\PDC\ExchangeOAB\21759fb1-8233-4b02-b186-e11741a11876\oab.xml. This is normal if it has never been generated. Otherwise, make sure this file has read permission for "Exchange Servers" group.

The share works, but since it is not populated, there is no oab.xml in there...

So you mean to say that on the Mailbox server in ExchangeOAB GUID there isnt any .lzx files.

Exactly, the folder is totally empty.

OAB is pointing to the new Exchange 2010 server ?
Hope all Microsoft Exchange services are started on the Mailbox server.

Yes, under Org Config, Mailbox, in OAB tab, it points to the new server.

MS Exh services not started :

IMAP4
Monitoring
POP3
Server extension for Windows server backup

Is the OAB enabled for Web distribution and what all OAB versions have the Check box ?

- Rancy

maxalarieAuthor Commented:
Enabled for web distribution, yes.
Not quite sure I understand your question about the versions, how do I check that ?
0

maxalarieAuthor Commented:
Oh, only Outlook 2003 SP2 or later (v4) checked.

I can ask Question or try steps but prefer to share articles at this moment please go through them try to understand and if any issues do let me know

Maybe the article is for E2k7 but we need to check the replication for OAB.

I would say they are more of having the current server as replication partner to resolve the events or the issue.

Found out how to open PF Console, here is what I see, attached print screen.
It seems there is nothing (no PF) in v4 OAB. Should I create a new one via this interface ?

maxalarieAuthor Commented:
I did create one inside v4, called it OAB Replication Public Folder.

I managed to get the command through to set-PF :
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>get-publicfolder "\NON_IPM_SUBTREE\OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK\/o=processia2003/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/c
n=Default Offline Address List\OAB Version 4" -recurse|set-publicfolder -replicas "Public Folder Database 1894229471"

Tried to update OAB, didn't work.

I went on the PF via the PF Console, and I chose to Update Content.
It failed :

I was able to finish the second post you wanted me to look at, but I still have those eventIDs when I try to run an update of the OAB. There is something about this public folder replication thing, you pointed in the right direction...

Would I have some services to restart after creating the public folder and setting a replica ?

Would I have some services to restart after creating the public folder and setting a replica ? - Ideally not .....

The OAB screenshot you gave in that click on Parent folder that is for Default OAB and when you see the 3 OAB's in the middle pane you habe to rightclick in the middle pane and gp to its properties and check the Replication Tab.

If this doesnt work too much time ..... I would simply like to proceed with creating a new OAB and work with it.

It is empty on CAS server since it is distributed via Public Folder now...
How long does it take before I can test on a client computer if the see the last modifications in the OAB once it is populated ? I will check that, and maybe try to switch it back to web based after...

maxalarieAuthor Commented:
The problem is solved, the OAB  is replicated on the client computers.
Is there a problem leaving it as distributed by public folder ?

Thanks a lot for your patience throughout that whole migration. It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but I wouldn't have made it without Expert Exchange and Rancy :)
