Lync 2010 Client "The server is not responding or cannot be reached."

Hello EE,

We had a problem with our original Lync install so had to reinstall.  Everything was working on the client side originally and we didn't remove any firewall or DNS configuration so thought this would work.  Now clients can't connect getting error. "The server is not responding or cannot be reached.  Sign-in may be delayed while we retry the connection"
Any thoughts?

go under advanced settings of the lync client and input the manual config below, after that it should work fine for you.

Hi,

We experienced the same issue as you are describing. We did solve it by create one additional SRV-record in DNS for the domain. See DNS records below being used for each of our domains.

Type:       SRV
Host:       _sip._tls
Value:       100 1 443 sipdir.online.lync.com

Type:       SRV
Host:       _sipfederationtls._tcp
Value:       100 1 5061 sipfed.online.lync.com

Type:       CNAME
Host:       lyncdiscover
Value:       webdir.online.lync.com

When I changed to manual and added our domain name:
lync.bergquistcompany.com:443
I got "There was a problem verifying the cretificate from the server"

@jeliasson we have _sip._tls but it's 0 0 5061 for values.  We don't have a federation setup and for a cname we have our fqdn and target as sipdir.online.lync.com.

your not supposed to put lync.yourdomain.com:443

Put exactly what I have in the screen shot under manual configuration.

sipdir.online.lync.com:443

with that it says name, password or domain appears to be incorrect.  Ensure that you entered them correctly.  If the problem continues, please contact your support team.

I believe you will, as above, encounter certificate error if you are trying to connect to a domain name which is not valid in Microsoft certificate. In this case, you are trying to connect to lync.bergquistcompany.com:443 and as you don't have your hostname in their certificate you'll get errors.

I strongly recommend using autodiscovery and port 443 rather than 5061 due to potential public hotspot firewall restrictions.

We don't have office365 only Lync Server
I think I'm closer.  When I launch topology builder it has a red line thorugh lync server 2010.  I don't think it's running.  Services are started.  What can I check.
