MS Excel Issue

I have a 2010 spreadsheet that I am working on that is working great.

I have column on the sheet that contains a list of items.  That list is used in another column so I can choose (by drop down box) from the list of items I defined.

Depending on what is choosen from the drop down box another cell is changed to indicate the choice.  If works great.  I can enter my list.  The drop downs get changed when I make a change to the list and I can pick different items which update the cell correctly.  In other works if I choose item1 the cell is displayed as Item1.  If I change the drop down to Item2 then the cell changes to Item2.

The problem is when I copy the worksheet.  The formulas as correct.  The drop down list is correct but when I make a choice from the list my cell is not populated.  The formula points to the correct reference, but the choice is not displayed.  If I go to the formula for the reference and hit enter (no changes) it then updates.  I do not want to go though this exercise everytime I copy this worksheet.

Hopefully I can get an easy answer to this problem and hopefully you can understand what I am trying to do.

What exactly are you copying and to where are you copying it?

If the drop down selection is going to be on a different worksheet than the validation list, you should name the validation list and use the name in the drop down selector.  This allows the selector to be moved or copied.

All information is contained within the same sheet.  The validation list is named.

If you are copying the entire worksheet into a new worksheet, that should be fine.  I just tried that and the even the selected value and the cell referencing it were copied from the original.

If you are copying a selection, I'm not sure you'll get the same result.

Do you have workbook calculation set to automatic?

Yes the workbook calcualation is set to automatic.   I am coping a whole sheet using the move \copy by right clicking on the tab.

I just duplicated what I understand as your process.  When I copied the worksheet to a new worksheet, I received a error which states:

A formula or sheet you want to move or copy contains the name 'TheList' which already exists on the destination worksheet.  Do you want to use this version of the name?

Are you receiving this error and, if so, how do you respond?
