Error on Windows 2003 SBS Activesync for one user only
Hi
I have a Windows 2003 SBS and for some reason I have only one user that can't sync her Iphone with the server. I delete the account few times one the phone and recreate it but same problem. It will authenticate with the server but it will not send or receive any emails.
When I look at the event viewer I see thons of messages accumulating every minute like:
Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [server.domain.local] User: [user@domain.com] HTTP status code: [501]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.
I have more than a user and they all work fine except this one.
I guess is not a IIS problem or authentification or heathers since the problem is only for one user.
The mailbox is 1,977,54 KB on size

Check the massync.dll version in exchange bin folder. if it is older, update it and check if the issue still persists.
Why? If that were a problem, it would affect all users, not just one.
You also might want to check the inherited permissions / group membership for the user too (as per my article - which is also relevant for Exchange 2003):

I looked at the advance tab under security for this specific user and the box was not check.
I check it now but the problem still the same.
I'm rebooting the server and let you know if any diferent.
All the other users that work they already had the box check except this one.
I will let you know after the reboot.

A reboot shouldn't make any difference, but will wait to hear back from you.

After the reboot so far so good.
No more errors on the event viewer.
Let's wait one hour just to make sure.
I believe that fix it.
Like I said she was the only one that has the permission box uncheck.
Let's hope that was that easy.

@alanhardisty : last week I faced almost the same issue on SBS 2003. Event 3005 was occuring only for 3 users. everything was fine. gave a try to update massync and it resolved the issue. Strange but it fixed it. I wanted him to try it before he performs repair/defrag/isinteg which is a lengthy process. and If the inherited permissions was the issue then neighter the repair/defrag would have fix this.
Well - that's a first for me! Not knocking it, but find it hard to believe.

Well that did not work.
Tons of error on the eventviewer now.
The massync.dll has a creation date of july 7 2009 and modify August 25 2005. Go figure.
So should I give it a try and replace the file?
Were do I get a good copy from.
I don't have the originals SBS CD because nobody is in the office now until tuesday.

What is the version of Massync.dll?
The following MS Article gives you a version for one released in Jan 2009 which is v6.5.7655.0
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967046
If your version is newer than this, then I don't see any need to update it and I would suspect that you have mailbox issues for this one user and my original comment would be where I would start to look.

Can't find the download link for the hotfix?
Any idea?

You need to call MS for that one - or you can download the file I have attached and rename it to a .exe file (to bypass EE's upload restrictions), then that will unzip the contents and you can then run the patch.

Thank you guys. Just a note to let you know that the solution I tried has fix the problem temporarly for about 12 hours. The event viewer start to fill again with the same error message for about 1 hour then stop again. So now it's not continusley like before but only maybe 500 times an hour for one or 2 hours then it stop for a few hours and then start again.
I'm running a defrag now. I should run a repair first but I will do it after the defrag is done then run the defrag again.

Why do the defrag twice?
Just run the repair, then the defrag and then isinteg (at least twice - until you see 0 errors and 0 fixes in the last line of the output).

Neider one of those worked.
I run a repair and a defrag and a isinteg twice but it work only for a few hours.
I'm planng to delete the active directory account and mailbox and recreate then import back all the emails.
Hope this will work.

The deletion / import may work - it quite often does, but it is a bit heavy handed.

I delete the user account on Active Directory and the mailbox then I run a mailbox cleanup adn purge the old mailbox.
I create a new user same name and same email adress. Import the old email backs and I still have the exact same error on the Eventviewer.
I'm wondering if is not the Iphone that create this problem.
I will change the password to make sure the Iphone does not have nothing to do with and see if the error stop. If it does I will set it on an android device and see if any diference.

Empty the mailbox and with an empty mailbox, add a few calendar items etc and see if that syncs.
If it does, then something in the exported mailbox is corrupt and is causing the problems.

Looks like the iphone was causing the problem. Can't explain how but after I change the passwors so the iphone can't connect anymore the error stop.
Now she has a new iphone and no problems reported.
