tmg firewall software 32bit - on dell pentium 4

hi i have in the passed as a test installed 'windows 2008' 32bit on my 'dell pentium 4, 1 gb ram' & setup a small lan successfully!!

at the moment im running windowsw 2003 domain and was going to migrate to windows 2008 for the time being!!!

qns1. i wanted to know in advance although i did not try at the time, could i install 'tmg evaluation copy 32bit' on this 'dell pentium 4m, 1gb ram', or would i have to install with all windows 2008 updates first of all and then attempt to install 'tmg', like an upgrade ?

qns2.  if windows 2008 32 bit can be installed on my dell pentium 4, 1 gb ram, im wondering if i could install 'sbs 2008 bit' ?

note:  ideally i know i need other machines & need to update to 64bit, but until the 'funds' are available im trying to make do with what we have!!

Shortanswers are no and no. TMG 2010 and SBS 2008 require 64-bits. It is listed in the minimum system requirements of both products.

hi x-men, ive downloaded the following sometime ago:

- TMG_ENU_Management_x86

i will try it and see sometime as not sure what it is, but even if it is a basic program i can at least understand concepts as normally use 'isa 2006' currently, until funds are available to update to 64 bit.

It isn't basic. The key is in the name. "Management."

Think of it as TMG's version of the windows RSAT tools. It is JUST the management console. It allows a client (non-server) machine to remotely manage a TMG server. It has no TMG functionality, and will nt even allow you to experiment or see the interface if there is n remote TMG server to connect to and populate the interface with appropriate data. Without a TMG server, the manage, ent download is useless.

You can't even test. The install will fail. It isn't a 64-bit "strongly suggested" ...it is REQUIRED. might as well attempt stick an SBS DVD in your toaster oven and install it. Same basic comcept. Minimum requirements must be met, even for a test lab scenario. Or the installer and components will fail to install and function.

TMG_ENU_Management_x86 is a remote management front end. Its a manegement console to connect and manage the TMG server / appliance from your workstation
