rebuilt the SQL 2005 mirror

Dear all,

right now we need to rebuilt the SQL server 2005 mirror's primary server and we will restoer all DB to a new server and start the mirror again.

Should we:
1) break the mirror relationship from the existing primary and partner relationship.
2) backup the user DBs.
3) restore the user DB to the new server.
4) create the mirror again to hte same DR parnter again without restore the DB to DR parnter DB again?

will it works?  of course we want to do it quickly !

I would set the partner as primary server, and then rebuild the "old primary". and then recreate the mirror, (either changing the roles or not)

check this (at the end of article): http://sqlservr.blog.com/2011/12/29/database-mirroring-in-simple-steps/

x-men,

What is the benifit on doing this ?

The point is should I break the mirror before backing up ?

After the new primary up, can I just attach the same primary DB back, and without restore the DR DB, and setup the mirror again ?

If the mirror is synchronized, the partner is your backup. By seting the partner as the new primary, you're able to keep the services online, giving you all the time you need to set up the first server.
when you get the first server ready, you can decide if you whant to add it as partner of your new primary, or re-change the roles.

Under what situtation shoud we use the SQL cert. to setup the mirror?

I can't see why we cant' just use the SQL mirror wizard to create the mirror session but using certification.

x-men,

What I saw at the end of this articles is :

"use master
 go
ALTER DATABASE test SET PARTNER FAILOVER

This query is used to run on Principle/Primary Server, if your Principle server is SHUTDOWN for any reason, then the only thing you have to do is change the Mirrored Server to a Priciple server and the Database has to be accessed by the users.

Log on to your Mirrored server, open SSMS, and write this query

use master
 go
alter database test set partner off
 go
 restore database test with recovery

note:- As i have used test as a database, you have to replace your database name with test
"
I don't see any related to my question, what should I be?  am I looking at wrong information ?

X-men, even this is not what I want but thanks for the coaching.

we already stop the mirror connection before changing the old hardware. then we need to clean up all mirror stuff before re create again.
