Is HP system-specific memory compatible with other servers?

Is HP Proliant server system-specific memory, such as this...

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/8GB-4x2GB-DDR2-667-PC2-5300-ECC-Registered-Memory-HP-ProLiant-DL180-G5-240-PIN-/370644825797?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item564c2736c5#ht_1942wt_910
(note the warning about single vs double rank memory in the description)

...compatible with a generic motherboard such as the Intel S5000PSL, that expects to accept the same type of memory? For example:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Rackable-Systems-2x-Dual-Core-Xeon-5160-3GHz-4GB-RAM-1U-Server-/330785366362?pt=COMP_EN_Servers&hash=item4d0458215a#ht_3866wt_959

From the eBay articles you can probably guess what I'm trying to do here... find some cheap extra memory to put into a cheap second hand server I'm planning on buying.

Yes, it's normal RAM but HP have "qualified" it so it has their part number on it. Thet re-test generic RAM to make sure that it is not only suitable for any old server but for their specific one.

No prob.

Any of  PC2-5300 ECC RAM will support this model.
