Change SID on Windows 2008

I would like to change the SID of one of my 2008 R2 virtual machines. I have read that running sysprep from Windows\System32\Sysprep will generate a new SID. I do not want to format or lose any data on this server. Would running Sysprep lose any information?

At most you'd lose individual user settings.
