Hi Experts,

I have a problem with my citrix xenapp5 server.
When I create a published app and I try to start it, nothing happens.

A screen pops up and then another one, very short, with logging off something.
Then nothing else.

Do you know this behavior ?

On the client where you are trying to launch the apps, telnet ports 1494 and 2598 - are they successful?

Another reason for this is that you do not have sufficient licenses.

Also check in your delivery console for any suspected metric issues on the server you are trying to connect to.

when I type telnet server 1494 then I see ICA and more letters.
when I type telnet server 2598 then the prompt turns to a black screen

is it ok ?

If a telnet results with black screen and the cursor at the top left of the screen then that should mean a connection is established. Hitting enter should return you to the command prompt.

If this is not the case then ensure:

1. The XTE listener is running by issuing the command on the server: netstat -a |find "2598"
Returning one result means that it is OK

2. If not ensure the XTE service is running from the services mmc

3. If it is running but still no dice perhaps it is listening to another port: check httpd.conf file in C:\Program Files\Citrix\XTE\conf\

4. If the port is OK then there must be a firewall in between the client and the server.

Sounds to me like the user is getting a session on the XenApp server, but the executable you've published is either failing to start, or starting and then exiting again, then the session is being closed and the user logged off.

Try publishing something simple like notepad.exe from the same server and see if that works.
If it doesn't work either, start looking at logs to find out why.

Check the application permission on the server where it is published and also on the same server try restarting all the Citrix related services. Also have to tried with a different user account? happening for other application as well?

Hi,

I published the calculator (calc.exe) on the server.
This works fine.
But my applications still not, always have this logoff screen for a second.

Make a remote desktop connection onto the same server and log on as the user that the published app is failing to start for. Create a shortcut to the executable using the same path you used to publish it, does it load?

when I start the applications locally direct on the server, then they work.
When I open a RDP connection with my credentials to the server then I can log in.
And I also can open the applications in the RDP session.

what more ?

Hi,

Download ICA file creater from below location.

http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX113472

Give server name and select option "a published app" after few seconds you will get a Published applications dropdown box, there you select your application and also select encryption level  128 bit login only and write a ICA file.

Directly launch the application and test it.

Does the application have any logging capabilities? If so switch them on and/or look at the logs. Look in the various Windows event logs (esp. Application and System).

The exe possibly relies on something that does run in a full desktop session but not when only the application is published. (one example, though unlikely, is explorer.exe)

this applications have no logging capabilities.
