RS232 Barcode Scanner not writing to Notepad ...
Hi,
I do have RS232 Barcode Scanner. But when i scan a barcode it is not writing to notepad -Notepad is opened and it is the active window. Can you please provide me trouble shooting steps ?
May be related to ports ? I do have COM1. Do we need anything other than this ?
Thanks

Is there installation software? If so try uninstalling it then reinstalling.
Are there any error messages or is it just doing nothing?

Make sure the rate, bit, and parity are correctly set - They are exactly same like other machines. Any other pointers ?
Thanks

Uninstall and reinstall software. After that contact the maker of the bar code reader.
What make/model is it?
Symbol makes a USB scanner. Are you locked into a particular one?
I think the ones from Symbol are around $100 or so.

Ok, I found something that indicates that you need to scan a particular code that is provided by Symbol for either USB, Serial, or keyboard wedge.
When you press the button does it light up at all?
From what I can tell you "install" these by scanning bar codes provided by Symbol.

Here...I found a 1900 series manual.
Hopefully this will help.

I think what you are looking for is a scanner that does "keyboard emulation". Here is a guide that describes how "keyboard emulation" works with app integration:
http://www.idautomation.com/scanenable/

tncode...if you read through the entire thread you would know the user has the scanner he needs and it works on another computer. His computer was recently re-installed and this scanner is not working on his computer but it works on others.
The scanner is what the user needs and is functional.
The guide I provided should provide the bar codes he needs to program his scanner.

Yes, I agree. Even so, using a RS232 scanner to scan into notepad is like walking around the block to move 5 feet to the right. It depends on what his time is worth. If it takes him 4 hours to figure this out, it may actually cost more than just purchasing a new scanner that is meant to do what he wants.
See if the issue is with the scanner or the computer.
Also, has this ever worked or is it a new install?
One more thing...I have used a USB Symbol scanner that works great. This would eliminate any COM port issues.
