Windows 2008 Availability

Is Windows 2008 R2 still available since the release of 2012? CDW apparently no longer carries it.

I was able to purchase a copy yesterday from TigerDirect. The sale is on. There is no way they would discontinue sales of 2008 this early.

Buy 2012 Volume license and use the downgrade rights - you'll be able to download the Server 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 from the Volume License web site and use whatever you want.

You can buy Windows Server in three ways...

1) OEM - the server hardware is supplied with the software pre-installed. You might be able to find a supplier who will provide this, but you will to shop around

2) Full Boxed Product - Buying it off the shelf. Again, you might be able to find someone with an old stock item.

3) Volume licenses - This gives you the permissions to downgrade, but not the media and license keys. This you have to obtain from other areas - hopefully you can get his from you volume portal or microsoft partner
