Network Issues
have a xp pro pack 3 having network issues. Sys. will drop connection, but it seems that a reboot brings it back working again. Can't remote in...can't see other lan systems and they can't see each other EITHER..seems that what ever is happening is affecting the whole network but rebooting the main one, just running peer to peer, brings it back...here is a couple of the errors....sometimes i get the "too many tcp/ip connections" error as well--how to fix that as well...??? HELP

Any chance under the adapter configuration that power management is enabled?
ASKER
no, it's disabled.....
Try a new NIC and/or new network cable on the main one.
ASKER
inst. a new nic card and new cable along with new switch...so now we will see...what about the tcp/ip over limit error? what can i do to the reg. to fix that?
You may not have to fix it - wait to see if it still appears now. (Make a good backup that you can rely on and restore quickly before you start to play with those settings though.)
ASKER
Yeah.....backups and VERIFIED too , rules to live by...SOP
ASKER
have switched out all above, and prob. seems to still have issues with disconnecting when logged in remotly...whether using logmein or gotomypc...dropps out ever few min. like before.. starting to think the qwest modem may be the prob. or the system itself...like the o.s. which is xp pro pack 3..something could be tainted w/os...
Is there a screensaver or power saving setting?
ASKER
none of those are enabled, made sure of that
ASKER
replaced the following: Nic/Switches/Cables with cat 6. Changed screen saver. put normal default in place and made sure again that power off options are NONE.Time will now tell if problem is cured as it was intermittent...thx
ASKER
these sites helped some with info, but we will see if prob. now goes away...
i got these from another tech's question/answer..thanks

looks like replacing ALL network cables, with cat6, has fixed the prob. but i also had replaced the switchs and the nic in main sys. so one of them has fixed...some times you just don't have the time to do one at a time esp. when client is totally frustrated...thx for all your help.
