Effect of changing minimum password length on Windows 2008 domain

We are looking to change our minimum password length from 6 to 7 on the domain, and were wondering what the effects for the end users will be.

We believe that the users will just need to conform with the new policy the next time they change their password, but wanted to double check.  We want to make sure they aren't going to all get prompted to change their password on next login or anything that maybe disruptive or out of the ordinary to them.

    Accepted Solution

Yes, you are right. They would not be prompt to change current password until it will expire or administrator will force password change at next logon

    Assisted Solution

I tend to 2nd guess myself sometimes so I checked on my own AD network.  Just like iSiek said, current passwords are not affected by the new policy.  Only when the user changes it.
