Approval on WSUS server

After approving the security patches on WSUS, the Approval status changes from "Not approved" to "Install (1/14). What does "1/14" mean ?

Beside, do I need to specify the target computers group or can I just apply them to all groups ? For example, if the patches are for Window XP  and if I apply them to Window servers, will they cause any harm ? If it doesn't, I don't need to manually exclude those computer groups which may be much easier for me.

You can simply approve patch installation on all groups, if this is not required by client/server it won't be installed, so do not worry.

At this moment i cannot remember if 1/14 is:

1) required by 1 group out of 14
or
2) required by 1 server/client out of 14

One more check, so I could simply apply to "All computers" top level, correct ?

Yes, you can
But best practices tells you to split client OS from server OS and split also critical servers
Remember, when you approve an update on "All computers" group it will be installed on each machine in that group. What if that update would break server ? It's always better to have a test group to see if update(s) is/are not causing any issues

Installed means that hotfix is installed and not applicable means that server does not need this hotfix due to different OS

If the patches are not applicable, it shouldn't be installed. Yet does it come out with that ?

Installed means it is not necessary to install because it is already installed
Not applicable means that it is not necessary because it is not valid for this OS type or architecture
