Dear Experts:

We are into real estate company recently we have gone for branding, the branding agency are working with us, I works IT Head and myslef linux administraror maintaining server virualization vmware , storage , MPLS network , IP-PBX linux based VOIP. mpls each spoke with linux box for dns slave and many more around 8 linux server configured and mainteined and also zimbr amail server. Now all of a sudden branding company comes in and says they want the present web service provider to be terminated and present SEO serive to be terminated and we have to sign a contract with their reference service provider.
We still agree to change the web and SEO service provider but iam not comfortable with the service provider they are reffering for as they are technically not up to the mark.

My doubt can Branding companies involve in our decisions in selecting the vendor for web service and SEO, do we have to listen for branding company for the IT decisions . we would have accepted if they had refered good service provider. Please suugest can branding company involve in IT decisons in chossing the vendor.

Please suggest me in this

In a perfect world only IT people would have a say over IT designs and decisions, but the world is far from perfect.  Most companies are not IT-centric, meaning they are not an IT company and so only view IT as a cog in the machine that helps them make money.  They don't care about the IT cog anymore than the HR cog or other support cogs.  Because of this IT is often an afterthought even though many companies really rely in IT to make their business work.

To the executives the branding company may be presenting them a full package that sounds good on the surface because they don't know the details of all the parts.  It is your job to inform them and be the advocate for the best IT practices and decisions that will drive the company forward.  Make clear, concise points based on facts and, if possible, back those up with RoI as that is what most executives use to drive their decisions.

A branding company certainly shouldn't be making any IT decisions and you need to point that out.  Call to light their flaws and state why it would be bad to follow their IT recommendations.  You may not win the fight but you will have done your job and that's the best you can do in any situation.

I'm assuming that SEO is 'Search Engine Optimization' and you have a third party that handles this for you.  If so then I believe yes, it is definitely an IT asset and you should have control of it.

Here's a good test, if there was a problem with the SEO service would they come to IT fix it?  If the answer is yes then it belongs to IT.
