Upgrade latest VMware 8 Wkstn to the latest release of VMware 9 Wkstn FAILS with pop-up message
Here is my frustration that I wish to share with the community members of this forum. I am technical and have been using VMware Wkstn products since Release 5-->6--->7---->8. Have not had issues with upgrades or installations.
VMware 9 has just frustrated me so much, that even VMware support knowledge base is completely useless. They need to revamp that whole UI interface. Anyway, here is my issue, I am hoping somebody in this forum can help me out.
BTW: All of my VMware prodcuts are purchased directly from VMware store and legally licensed.
Last night I tried to install / upgrade VMware 8 Wkstn to latest VMware 9 Wkstn. It seems it is almost at the tail end of installation and rolls back the installtion with the pop-up message. (Attached).
I tried the exact same installation process on my laptop, same issue with this pop-up.
I never had any issues when I upgraded from 7-->8 as well when applying latest updates.
My system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (Desktop and Laptop) with 8GB RAM and Quad Processor. I log in as Administrator on both systems. I mean the actual "administrator" account.
I start my VMware installation process "run as administrator". Although tried both ways (with/without), it does not make any difference whatsoever.

I eventually had to rebuild my lap[top and PC with fresh install of latest VMware Wkstn. 9
VMware has been on the phone with me few times, attempt to support the upgrade. They also have realized the shortcomings, yet it varies from one environment to another. However, they informed me their development team has Uninstall process as one of the top listed items for review.
With that I would like to close this thread.

My friend piyushransuri:
What you are suggesting was also tried at some point. No success.
At the end of the day, I feel software vendor should take the onus of zero-defect uninstall process. I'm sure VMware development team are on top of this issue to ensure that the the uninstall process is smooth and does not require additional administrative efforts.
Appreciate the suggestion. It is now in the hand of VMware developers as part of hot-list of items to tackle for future versions.
Despite, thank you for chiming in.
