VMWare, assigning cores

I have a machine with multiple lpars with only 1 core assigned to each

From the vSphere client, I see that the host reports the following

Processor Sockets: 2
Processor Cores per Socket
Logical Processors: 24
Hyperthreading: Enabled

I have 12 physical cores

I want to assign 6 physical cores to one of the LPARs

When I set the cores to the LPAR I have the following Options

Number of Sockets: 1
Number of Cores per Sockets: 1

So to assign six physical cores to one of the LPARs, which of these configurations do I perform:

First Configuration

Number of Sockets: 1
Number of Cores per Sockets: 6

Second Configuration

Number of Sockets: 1
Number of Cores per Sockets: 12
