How to change Search box setting when clicking New Tab for Google Chrome

I can change the Search Box setting via Settings on Chrome. When I open a new browser, I see the change take effect. However I click to open a new tab, the old Search box setting is still there. Is there any place I can set to change the Search Box when opening the new tab?
Can any gurus shed some light on it? Thanks.

--OCDan, thanks a lot for the tip. I am not sure he "Settings" you were talking about. I clicked the icon whose caption is "Customize and control Google Chrome", and then Item Settings shows up. Is that what you talked about? I'm including a screen shoot here. If so, I changed it but when I click to open a New Tab, I still see the Search Engine used previously, but the one I want to use. Any help is appreciated.

OCDan, I tried a few times, and it has not changed it yet. Any other things I can try?
