ESXi 5: Install fails

Hi All,

I am trying to install ESXi 5 onto a Dell Power Edge 1950, but get the following error;

heartbeat: 610: PCU 0 didn't have a heartbeat for 21 seconds.  *may* be locked

I took a screenshot, sorry for the blurry picture.

Are you using the Dell OEM version of ESXi 5.0, downloaded from Dell?

what processors are in the 1950 ?

have you updated to the latest firmwares available?

I couldn't find a Dell copy of ESX, so used the one on the VMware.  Do you have a link and I'll give it a go.

The processor is an Intel® Xeon® Processor E5405

it's listed on the HCL, PE950-III

5,.1U1 - Dell Inc. 2.7.0 BIOS

if you insert the Tag Number into Support/Firmware/Downloads at Dell, there should be a link. let me see if I can find a Dell link.

The Link to the Dell download is in My EE Article!

HOW TO: Use Dell OpenManage Server Administrator to Create and Manage a Virtual Disk (RAID Array) on a Dell PowerEdge Server with VMware vSphere 5.0, ESXi 5.0 installed.

You will need to download the Dell Server Update Utility, and BOOT the Server from this CDROM.

Found it.

The Server Update Utility ISO is 4GB... is there a smaller file for just the BIOS?

You need to use both DVDs, Server Update Utility, and the Firmware DVD.

otherwise it can only be updated from Windows.
