POP error? You mean a POP3 error?

These accounts in 'remote offices' - how are they connected back to your server? I mean are you trying to access the server using the POP3 protocol? Or how are you trying to connect with Outlook?

Yes im trying to connect with pop3 from outside our local network. SMTP seems fine i can send but not receive

Ok, so I assume you've done the basics?

Opened port 110 on the firewall and also a NAT entry to translate from the public IP to your internal server's private IP?

Also you need to enable the POP3 for the user(Exchange management console, Recipient Config, Mailbox, right click user and go to properties, then Mailbox features)
Think its enabled by default but just something else to verify

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

the port is open I can setup emails on iphones. Ihave a cisco RV220W Wireless-N Network Security Firewall. I dont see a NAT option on the router

Right, well how did you open the port 25 for the email? Should be the same procedure for the POP3 port

Can't understand how there's not a NAT entry(but then not familiar with that router) but normally to make these work you open the port on firewall, then add the NAT entry to point your public IP to the internal private IP...

On your server run this command and post the output for us...

netstat -anp TCP

What I am looking for is the POP3 service, to see if its running
If it is you'll have an entry like

0.0.0.0:110 (or your private IP and 110 - 192.168.1.20:110) listening
If that entry isn't there you have to start the POP3 service from the Services section in Control Panel/Admin tools folder
Find the service and start it

This normally happens if there is a mis-config on the POP3 settings(Exchange Management Console, Server Config, Client Access - then the POP3 tab

Have you made changes in there?

Also I'm not referring to the SBS POP Connector - that's not what you are looking for
The POP Connector is a service which you use to download POP emails from another host/org/site TO your server...i.e. if you had POP3 mailboxes on a remote hosting provider site for example, you use the POP3 connector to download those mailboxes to local mailboxes...

The service I am referring to is called Microsoft Exchange POP3(Look in services section under Control panel/Admin tools)

Back in the EMC, Server Config, Client Access, POP3, properties
There's an Authentication tab - default is a TLS cert auth, switch to either Basic or Plain text and test and I think you will be in operation...

i've ran the netstat -anp TCP test and can see this now 0.0.0.0:110 (or your private IP and 110 - 192.168.1.20:110) listening but when i type in mail.californiachildrensacademy.org i get my router. i receive green check mark on all except the log in info. i've reset the password to the user already

You say 'type in mail.californiachildrensacademy.org' - in where? Outlook?

POP3 doesn't run over a web browser if that is what you are trying to get to...can you explain this a bit more clearer?

i type in mail.californiachildrensacademy.org for pop3 and smtp. i receive green check marks exept on the login. i've tried just the user name full email address and local domain and use. i just need it to work in outlook as pop3.

i've even tried remote.californiachildrensacademy.org and receive the log in error.

Restart the POP3 service once you've changed those settings...try that first and see...
