RDP to W2K freezes, but not to 2008

I have a desktop which I use to connect to our office via VPN.  Everything had been ok.
Desktop is run XP Pro, SP3.
Have been connecting to servers at work using RDC.  All had been ok.

Early this week I noticed when I keyed password for connecting to a 2000 server via RDC the keying was extremely slow.  Once I got in all ok.

Now I get sign on screen via RDC but will not take any input, just freezes.
I can still RDC to 2008 servers fine.

As added wrinkle, I also have laptop sitting right beside me which is XP Pro SP3 using same VPN, etc and everything works fine with RDC connection to 2000 servers.

same version of MSTSC client running on both the laptop and the desktop? W2k terminal services may not play nice with the new version.

    Exactly the same version.

Update, now I cannot RDC to 2008 servers from desktop, but still can from laptop.

    Accepted Solution

Found a solution, logged off, logged on with different account, connected via RDC, logged off, logged on as myself. RDC connection works fine.

Will leave this open for a few days to see if solution is permanent.
