CSS image numbering

Hello,

I am trying to create an photo blog. The issue I am having is I am trying to keep the pics I upload neatly organized and numbered. Below is an example of another site that uses word press and of how I would like my pictures to be numbered.

http://thechive.com/2012/09/07/daily-afternoon-randomness-in-hq-35-photos-10/

I have tried adding <div class='imageNum'><span>1</span> but it doesnt work very well.

I current have wordpress pro so I can edit the CSS.

When you say "WordPress Pro" do you mean you have a wordpress.com account?

is there a way to do this without moving my account over to .org?

I don't think so.

WordPress.com makes money in a few different ways.  For the small-scale customers, they charge for incremental upgrades like having your own domain name or ability to customize the CSS.  For large scale customers (like The Chive), they provide enterprise level hosting and a monitored, customized version of WordPress.

So while you can change your CSS, you still can't add your own plugins or code customizations and the Chive can.  I think the image gallery you are looking at is not standard to regular Wordpress.com accounts and you won't be able to replicate it.

Moving to self-hosted WordPress will put you in a position to replicate the effect but you would still need to figure out which plugin to use or develop your own.

Just so everyone knows I was able to develop my own PHP for this so if anyone needs it just email me.
