A lightening strike cut off the electricity for a flash. One of the PC's now gets full wi-fi from our Apple extender (five bars -130 mps) after getting only 5-10 mps since installed a year ago. What would cause that?

    Good luck ???
Probably the reset after the power outage.
Resetting PCs / routers / WiFi / power supply can lead to performance increases.
Also better atmospheric / air / humidity conditions can improove reception.
Ther is no one technical reason for your experienced improoved reception.
