Hi Guys,

I'm a web developer with a mac and a PC . I got all my client's files and folders on my PC and I want to be able to access them and update them form my mac. Basically a small network sort of a thing between my PC and the mac.

I might add another PC in the near future. I'm happy to invest on a separate hard-drive or a network drive and store all the files in there as a server. But not sure where to start. Can you guys please help? Thanks heaps

    Hi Uds,

On the PC, right click on the folder or drive that has your client's files, select properties and then the sharing tab.

In there you will be able to enable sharing and give users different permissions to access the share.

Once you have done that, you can go to the mac and follow the guide at the link below to access the share on the PC.

Keep in mind the firewall on the PC might block it, if it's not configured to allow connections.

If you have a budget for a NAS, check out the two bay NAS from Synology. They are easy to configure and support SMB and AFP. Additional you can add the Synology as an Time Machine target and backup your MAC.

An Synology NAS consume between 20 and 30 Watt, and only 3 Watt in sleep mode, instead of a pc with 200-300 Watt all the time. This investion will bay back soon, only in the energy who you save. for SOHO for more power

You don't need your PC. Just install the Parallels Desktop 8 Switch to Mac Edition on your MAC. You can then create one or more virtual Windows sessions on your MAC with seamless interchange of files and full Windows functionality. Time Machine will also backup the Windows files.
